PFAS and Siloxane Free PPA MB
Product Description
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) include more than 4,700 compounds and some siloxane-based compounds particularly concerning are perfluorocarbons such as:
- Perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCA) including Perfluorooctanoic (PFOA),
- Perfluorooctane sulfonates (PFOS)
- Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), and Perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA).
- Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5), and dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6)due to their persistence
Trial Setup:
A trial was conducted to test the performance of ALOK VS101 PFAS-free Siloxane free Polymer Processing Aid (PPA).
- Film Structure: 3 layer
- Machine Details: W&H Vertex 3 layer with 950 kg/hrs output
- Thickness: 18 Microns, 45 Microns and 100 Microns natural film
- Thickness: 25 micron and 100 micron white film
- Layer Ratio: 1:2:1
- Blow-Up Ratio (BUR): 1:2.62
- Width: 2590 mm
- White Masterbatch: Tested both with and without white MB
Key Observations:
- The trial ran continuously for 36 hours for each sizes i.e. 18 Mic to 100 mic.
- Excellent bubble stability and smooth processing without blocking or die buildup in any of the micron size with or without white.
- No black spots detected during long trials
- Consistent and satisfactory processing at an output of 725 kg/hour.
- 2-sigma thickness variation was 5.2 to 8.1%
- The PPA was used 3% in the sealant layer which is in touch with die.
- The output was kept 550 kg/hrs for the entire trials.
Key Results:
- No die buildup observed with ALOK VS101 PFAS-free PPA, indicating excellent performance.
- Effective in addressing melt fracture and die buildup typically seen with the traditional PFAS based Polymer Processing Aids.
Conclusion
ALOK VS101 PFAS-free PPA demonstrated excellent processing performance, successfully addressing common challenges encountered when transitioning away from traditional PFAS-containing PPAs. Thus, ALOK VS101 PFAS-free PPA is approved for production use.
